Ash Wednesday (22 Feb 2012) is the start of the forty-day Season of Lent. It derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of the faithful as a sign of repentance and renewal. The ashes traditionally come the burned palms used during the previous year’s Palm Sunday.
When the priest/minister imposes ashes on the forehead of the faithful, he says “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return” or “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.”Can’t wait!!
